Fastpass – the free passes that let you skip the long lines in WDW – is gone, dead, kaput. It’s been replaced with a system called Disney Genie+ and the Lightning Lane which I used every day of our recent trip to Disney.
From this post you’ll learn all about Disney World’s new Lightning Lanes, Genie, and Genie+ (including what’s the difference between all of them!)
The most up-to-date list of Genie+ attractions and strategies can be found in my new planning guide + community, Laid-back Magic. LEARN MORE HERE >>
The Lightning Lane is what Disney is naming the expedited queue that lets you go ahead of the standby line. It’s not the FastPass line anymore, but the Lightning Lane, or “LL.”
Genie+ is a paid add-on, costing between $15-22 per ticket, per day, that allows you to use the Lightning Lane entrance at 40 attractions across Walt Disney World. You can make your first Genie+ selection at 7AM if you’re staying on or off-site. You choose the next available return window and if you have a park hopper ticket, you can park hop!
For example:
You’ve added Genie+ to your Hollywood Studios day. At 7am, you see the first time slot for Smuggler’s Run is at 9:40am, so you book it for your entire party.
At 9:40am, you head to Smuggler’s Run and enter the Lightning Lane. As soon as your device is scanned, you open your Tip Board again, and yay: there’s a Toy Story Mania timeslot at 11:15am, so you book that.
At 11:15am, you head to Toy Story Mania, scan. Open the app, choose another. Repeat!
More popular attractions – like Space Mountain and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance – are not included in Genie+ but you can pay to use the Lightning Lane entrance. Everyone is limited to 2 selections per day, and you can only use the LL once for each attraction. For instance, if you wanted to ride Space Mountain again, you’d have to wait in the standby line.
This is completely separate from the Genie+ add-on. A la carte pricing will ebb and flow based on the ride’s demand, usually $15-22/per attraction.
On-site guests can select these starting at 7 AM. Off-site guests can make these selections when the park opens. This is huge advantage for staying at a Disney resort!

For more Disney World planning, here’s how I can be of help:
My life doesn't revolve around Disney like you may think. I live for my family: my husband and our three kids. In my spare time I like to make my home the best it can be, read on our porch and watch (you guessed it) Disney+.
