Every Disney World day can look perfect on paper and still feel awful in your body. If you have ever crashed halfway through the day, felt shaky, irritable, exhausted, or totally overstimulated in the parks, this episode is for you.
In this episode, I sit down with Ashley of Magic & Wellness to talk about Disney World hacks that actually support blood sugar and energy while you are in the parks. Ashley is a nutritional therapy practitioner who helps women feel better in their bodies, and she breaks down exactly why Disney days can feel so hard and how a few simple shifts can completely change how you feel. We get very practical about what to eat at Disney World, how to build balanced meals and snacks, and how to use Disney World snacks in a way that works with your body instead of against it.
In this episode, we cover
• Why blood sugar crashes are so common at Disney World and how they impact your mood, patience, and energy
• Simple Disney World hacks to keep blood sugar and energy stable from rope drop to fireworks
• What to eat at Disney World for breakfast so you are not starting the day behind
• How to use Disney World snacks strategically to avoid hunger and afternoon crashes
• Smart swaps and easy mobile order choices when deciding what to eat at Disney World
• Why coffee, treats, and even ice cream can work when paired the right way
• What to keep in your park bag to support steady blood sugar and energy all day

[00:00:00] Dana Stanley: Hi, Ashley. Welcome to the Laid Back Magic WayPodcast. I have been,
[00:00:05] Ashley: me.
[00:00:06] Dana Stanley: I have been so excited to talk to you. I think before I had a podcast, like when I was thinking about doing it, I was like, well, I’d have her on for sure, because I love everything that you do, but without me telling everyone, can you just explain a little bit about yourself and the work that you do?
[00:00:24] Ashley: Yes, so I am Ashley. I’m a nutritional therapy practitioner and a licensed esthetician, so I do everything virtually. I focus on helping women feel their best with their skin, whether it’s acne or rosacea. And also their blood sugar when it comes to fatigue and brain fog and weight gain and hormone imbalances like PCOS, which I actually have killed myself from.
[00:00:45] Ashley: And, um, just not feeling good every single day.
[00:00:49] Dana Stanley: I feel like you just gave a list of like everything that I’m dealing with,
[00:00:53] Ashley: Yeah.
[00:00:54] Dana Stanley: which is why I wanted to talk to you.
[00:00:55] Ashley: yeah, they deal with it every day and it’s so sad.
[00:00:58] Dana Stanley: I know. Just back to like women suffering in silence because when hormones come up and for people that have list listened to my podcast in the past, this has been an ongoing thing of just me feeling like garbage, which I’ll get into a little bit more.
[00:01:12] Dana Stanley: But how did you personally. Get into this. Was there something that
[00:01:17] Ashley: Oh
[00:01:18] Dana Stanley: made you go that route? Yeah,
[00:01:20] Ashley: Yeah. Oh yeah. I feel like we all have like our, um, healing journey, origin story, which is like amazing. I love hearing everyone’s, but I had a really hard time with my health from about the time I was 20 to my late twenties. Um, I had really bad acne. I was gaining weight very rapidly. And you know, I love modern medicine.
[00:01:39] Ashley: We need it, like we literally do need it, but the, there are, there’s good and bad doctors, right? So the doctor I was working with, um. She just kept telling me that I was just lazy, but I had no energy. And she never asked me what I was eating or how I was sleeping or anything like that. Um, and it, and so I struggled in silence for a really long time, and I would just like cry because you’re like, why can’t I lose weight and why do I have acne?
[00:02:01] Ashley: And so in 2020, I got diagnosed with PCOS from a functional doctor and it changed my life and I went down the whole rabbit hole, right? Of if you’ve ever done hormone imbalances and PCOS, you go down that rabbit hole. And I lost 35 pounds in like nine months, and I felt amazing and it was so rewarding.
[00:02:19] Ashley: And it’s crazy because we were going to Disney a lot during that time. So I, I can see the progression of my health journey as we were going to Disney, but I still had a lot of bloating and I still had acne. And I was like, what the heck is happening? So I worked with a nutritional therapy practitioner, like what I am now, and I actually learned along the way that brain fog fatigue, low energy hanger.
[00:02:41] Ashley: Blowing up if you haven’t eaten. Um, moodiness insomnia is actually not normal. It’s common. It’s not normal. And I thought those were things I could never fix. I thought that’s just who I was. And so she taught me how to balance out my blood sugar. And then of course, we worked on the acne and the digestion as we worked together.
[00:02:57] Ashley: But through learning how to balance out my blood sugar, I actually felt like a new person and the hanger was gone. I slept through the night, which was a lifelong insomnia diagnosis basically. It was fixed over a couple months and I just felt amazing. And it was nice to have a body that I felt good in, um, where everything actually worked the way it was supposed to work.
[00:03:17] Ashley: So that was what led me to be like, I have to do this job. So I left my career as an esthetician of eight years and started Magic and Wellness where I get to help women every day.
[00:03:27] Dana Stanley: Well, and I think this is something that I think everyone eventually gets there to realizing. Uh, you can’t just put band-aids on things. You have to get to the root cause and people start under understanding their bodies, and it’s just so good that you realize that at like a younger age,
[00:03:44] Ashley: I’m
[00:03:45] Dana Stanley: because I’m, I mean, I’ve, I’ve always known those things, but being a mom for the past, you know, over 10 years of trying to get pregnant pregnancies, breastfeeding, and then times three, which I know a lot of my listeners are in the same boat.
[00:04:03] Dana Stanley: We get so depleted and, and that on top of it, you’re trying to figure things out on your own or your blood work comes back from your doctor as normal. Usually because they’re not doing the specific labs.
[00:04:16] Ashley: Mm-hmm.
[00:04:16] Dana Stanley: And I’ve, you know, when I talk about my hormones or mention anything, I get flooded with dms of like, how, how did you find out and what are your symptoms?
[00:04:27] Dana Stanley: ’cause I also feel like garbage and it just. Again, just women generally suffering in silence, not knowing what to do, and feeling like legitimately crazy.
[00:04:38] Ashley: Yeah. I mean, I, I legitimately thought I was crazy and I, I mean, I, I had a doctor tell me I would be crazy if I got off birth control and. So then when I got off with my functional doctor, I was like, just, please don’t let me be crazy. I’m so scared I’m gonna be crazy. She’s like, girl, deep breath. You’re gonna be okay.
[00:04:54] Ashley: You know, and it’s just, it’s amazing to give that to women now because I felt so alone. Like I felt so alone on my health journey, even through losing weight and like figuring out a little bit about my PCOS. It’s so lonely and it’s just nice to have somebody walk through that journey with you.
[00:05:07] Dana Stanley: Oh yeah. I, I definitely feel, and I felt this from, you know, having miscarriages or, or anything that people are struggling with. It’s like. We’re not able to talk about it. And now I’m just like, no, that’s stupid. We should just, we need to all be, because if you talk to your friend about it, everyone’s dealing with the same thing.
[00:05:26] Dana Stanley: It’s just not like common knowledge that No, we actually are all dealing with some form of something. And your, your brand is called Magic and Wellness, which is why I had you particularly on the show. Can you tell me, ’cause I actually don’t, I’m assuming you’re local to Orlando.
[00:05:45] Ashley: No, actually I’m in
[00:05:46] Dana Stanley: You’re not, that’s so funny.
[00:05:49] Ashley: I, oh my gosh. Maybe someday. I, I hope, um, I’m actually in Kansas. Yeah,
[00:05:53] Dana Stanley: That’s I’m not local either. And people like I am too. So I’m like, no, I
[00:05:58] Ashley: we just live in a Disney house. Like I just, everything’s Disney here. Anytime you see me, I have some Disney on. I have, yeah. I’m just, I’m a girl.
[00:06:07] Dana Stanley: did. So what did you notice dealing with your struggles? And also you mentioned like while you were healing and.
[00:06:14] Ashley: Yes.
[00:06:15] Dana Stanley: Your like Disney days on your healing journey? Like what were you noticing when you were in the parks? Like when you felt like your worst
[00:06:25] Ashley: Yeah. Oh my gosh. I love this question so much because I feel like the stuff people don’t talk about, like you hear about when they’re done with their journey and how amazing they feel now. But like I, first of all, I’m just, I am a tummy. I was the tummy hurt girl. Like my husband in his wedding vows to me, literally mentioned my tummy problems because he was like, I’ll always make sure you have Gatorade and ginger to help with your, your stomach problems.
[00:06:45] Ashley: I don’t have that anymore, thank goodness. Um,
[00:06:48] Dana Stanley: know. I know what you’re talking about though. There’s always like that friend.
[00:06:50] Ashley: I was that girl. And so, you know, I wouldn’t, TMII wouldn’t poop for four days on a Disney trip.
[00:06:56] Dana Stanley: Awful. Awful.
[00:06:57] Ashley: And it was like straining and it was blue and you just felt like you had a literal food baby in your stomach. And you’re like, why am I not pooping?
[00:07:06] Ashley: And um, I would have like hanger meltdowns because I was eating so much carb and sugar without protein and fat and bouncing out and being hydrated. And I would like, you know, I was telling you like I would spill ice cream on my shirt and I’d be crying in the park as a grown woman, which is embarrassing to say, but I mean, that’s my reality.
[00:07:21] Ashley: And, you know, I would bicker with my husband even though we get along great. Like, you know, it’s, you’re in the most magical place on earth and you feel so overstimulated because your blood sugar is riding this rollercoaster ride and it doesn’t understand how to balance things out, so you have to help it out with the food you give it.
[00:07:37] Ashley: Um, so that’s how I would feel. I would feel really exhausted, constipated, like my stomach would feel so hard I couldn’t fit into certain clothing. Like I would buy certain clothing to wear while I was in Disney Parks to hide the bloat of my stomach, which. It’s wild, you know, you wanna look cute when you’re in the parks and, and comfortable at the same time.
[00:07:56] Ashley: Um, and so,
[00:07:57] Dana Stanley: Well, and you can do. You can do all of, you can pack these adorable outfits. You can, obviously, I’m a huge advocate for planning ahead of time, and you can do all of this thoughtful planning. You can, you know, do all the right things and thinking about the perfect things for your family and what rides are gonna get on.
[00:08:18] Dana Stanley: And the perfect resort spend thousands of dollars and you nail your lightning lanes and the weather is perfect like it is. You did everything right. But you can’t necessarily, you know, if you’re struggling with like the time of your cycle or again, like you’re saying, just sugar and caffeine and carbs, not eating well, you’re not sleeping a lot ’cause it’s, it’s Disney.
[00:08:43] Dana Stanley: You’re getting up early, you’re going to bed late. It’s a super stressful environment. You’re traveling, flying, which is like really wacky
[00:08:51] Ashley: Oh my
[00:08:51] Dana Stanley: that it’s just such a missing piece that. It really should be like the most important piece of planning a Disney trip is how you feel. ’cause your husband’s gonna be fine.
[00:09:02] Ashley: He is
[00:09:02] Dana Stanley: are gonna be fine. He’s always fine. He’s flatlined. Nothing changes.
[00:09:08] Ashley: like
[00:09:09] Dana Stanley: He is, he’s good. He’s totally good. And then I, I mean, I know you don’t have kids, but it, it doesn’t really matter. But in my scenario it’s, you know, you start snapping at your kids.
[00:09:21] Ashley: Mm-hmm. Yeah.
[00:09:23] Dana Stanley: That’s the worst feeling. Like I’ve, I’ve been there and I hate to admit it, but I, I can confidently say that it wasn’t any external circumstances because you could have a perfect, or let’s even think of it, the flip side.
[00:09:36] Dana Stanley: You could have like an awful Disney Day, right? Like it’s raining and everything’s closed and I don’t know, your kid spilled a red smoothie off the front. But like if you are regulated and you’re.
[00:09:50] Ashley: Mm-hmm.
[00:09:52] Dana Stanley: that’s fine. Like that could be the best day ever that you could talk about versus the flip side.
[00:09:58] Dana Stanley: And I’ve used this analogy to my husband before of like, you know, laying on the beach with a pina colada. Like life could be perfect on paper. Your lightning lanes, the weather ev, everything’s good. But if you aren’t good,
[00:10:13] Ashley: Yeah.
[00:10:14] Dana Stanley: you’re snapping for no reason. You’re crying over spilled ice cream.
[00:10:20] Dana Stanley: Which is kinda like spilled milk
[00:10:22] Ashley: I mean, basically, yeah.
[00:10:24] Dana Stanley: Yeah. It’s like spilled milk and it’s just not talked about enough. So I just, I love your account for that reason. ’cause it’s literally the things that I’m dealing with right now. But with, but with Disney,
[00:10:36] Ashley: Yes. Yes. And I feel like Disney and like wellness need to go hand in hand because you wanna feel your best Disney and it’s it. There is an actual way to do it in Disney, which is amazing.
[00:10:47] Dana Stanley: Which I can’t wait to learn about. Um, so when someone like me, usually if they come to you and. I mean, I don’t know if anyone would say this to you specifically, but if maybe someone says to you or you see them in the park of like, they start feeling awful halfway through the park day, what’s usually happening to them?
[00:11:08] Ashley: yes. Okay. So basically what has happened is you probably skipped breakfast, or you skipped breakfast and went straight to coffee, or you had breakfast, but all you had was make you waffles and then your blood sugar is riding that roller coaster ride. So. Then halfway through the day, your body’s like, I like actually can’t do this anymore.
[00:11:26] Ashley: I’m done. And then you’re gonna have like almost like a panic attack, like a meltdown because your body’s like, I need energy. I, I am like pulling from my reserves. I don’t know what’s happening. I feel like I’m being chased by a San two tiger. Please help me. But you’re wrangling kids or you’re running to that lightning lane and you don’t have time to stop for that balanced meal.
[00:11:44] Ashley: And so you’re just continuing that cycle of dysregulated blood sugar. So it’s all blood sugar and Disney parks.
[00:11:51] Dana Stanley: And when does that, what’s that usual crash like I always think of like the two o’clock slump. Does that sound about right? Of when like the ultimate, that’s probably why I, or part of why I joke that like, oh my kids need a nap. ’cause we love taking a break in the middle of the day.
[00:12:08] Ashley: Which we do too.
[00:12:09] Dana Stanley: Yeah. And I love, and like that is, I think everyone should take a break from two to four.
[00:12:14] Ashley: we do that exactly.
[00:12:16] Dana Stanley: Yeah, but I think a lot of it has to do with how I feel. It is the hottest part of the day. It’s the most crowded part of the day. So there are other reasons. It’s the typical nap time, siesta time, but I think that that’s the window where I’m overstimulated, but I also crave like a coffee,
[00:12:35] Ashley: Yes. So basically.
[00:12:37] Dana Stanley: of coffee.
[00:12:38] Ashley: Yeah. So basically what’s happening is, you know, your blood sugar started on this rollercoaster ride from an hour after you woke up because maybe you didn’t give it what it needed, or maybe you gave it some carb and it’s like, it is like burning that carb as quickly as possible.
[00:12:51] Ashley: It’s the, it’s that, um, the kindling of the fire that like gets the fire going, right? And you skipped protein and fat, which is the, the burning log of your fire. So if you don’t have fat and protein of your, for your blood sugar all day long, your blood sugar is going up in flames. And then it’s going to jump, and then it’s just going to crash down, and then it’ll kind of like go up and down, up and down throughout the day.
[00:13:12] Ashley: And then you’re gonna have that hard crash at 2:00 PM if you haven’t eaten a bounce meal. Or maybe around, you know, noon, 11 to noon, you gave it more carb, and then it’s burning that fire again and then going right back down. So you’re just on this constant rollercoaster ride.
[00:13:28] Dana Stanley: Yeah, like you’ll feel good for a little bit.
[00:13:31] Ashley: Yeah. Like if, let’s say you had like a Mickey bar or something.
[00:13:33] Ashley: You had that ice cream, that chocolate, you’ve had sugar. Now your body’s like, woo, I got exactly what I needed. Because you’re on the up peak and then you’re about to plumb it down within 30 minutes.
[00:13:42] Dana Stanley: So if someone could implement one thing. On a park day? Is that what you would say is the breakfast, obviously, and how, what would your plate look like when between like the proteins and the fat and the carbs?
[00:13:55] Ashley: Yes. So usually the hard thing about Disney, and we love Disney because carbs are fun in Disney because they know how to make carbs the most fun. But we do wanna make sure that our plate is balanced. So usually what I recommend with my clients is with each meal, or well each meal, specifically breakfast too.
[00:14:11] Ashley: Sticking to the size of your fist when it comes to carb is gonna be amazing. So, you know, I think about like, um, a good
[00:14:18] Dana Stanley: one Mickey Waffle. That’s like the one, it’s one, yeah. Mm-hmm.
[00:14:23] Ashley: and I hate to tell women like, keep yourself from your make waffles, but it’s just balance it out throughout the day. You know, you eat about a, a size of your fist with each meal and you’re gonna feel amazing.
[00:14:32] Ashley: And then you want about, I would say 20 to 30 grams of protein on your plate. So a little bit over a fourth of your plate. You wanna be a protein. So, you know, like if we’re staying the Riviera, I love, um, primo pie for breakfast, so I’m getting ready. My husband will go grab that. You know, I try, he adds on extra sausage and bacon or eggs, whatever’s needed to add that protein and fat there.
[00:14:54] Ashley: And then, you know, it’s hard to find fiber in, in Disney, but we do wanna get some of that fiber, right? So cuties is the easiest way. The mandarins throw on a cutie who eats, eats breakfast, like that’s gonna give you some vitamin C, some fiber, keep you a little bit more regular. And also, um, stabilize that blood sugar as well.
[00:15:12] Dana Stanley: Which a reminder for people listening, you can find things like fruit here and there in the park, but you can order things to your resort. So you can just get a big bag of cuties and just add that. Because it’s important for kids too. We haven’t, we’re talking about moms, but this is for kids too, and I’ve noticed it in my kids too.
[00:15:33] Dana Stanley: I always try to keep something in the room of like, I don’t really prioritize fiber though, and that’s, that’s something that I definitely need to do. But some type of protein, um, you know, little microwavable sausages or, um, yeah, just protein
[00:15:51] Ashley: we always have beef sticks or like mozzarella sticks. Like if you can tolerate dairy, like those are easy things to have with you. Um, we’ve even ordered like hummus to the room before, like from grocery, like the grocery pickup, wherever we order groceries from, like we’ve ordered hummus and crackers.
[00:16:06] Ashley: That’s gonna be a really great fat source. Um, avocado, like guac cups are also really beneficial too, if you can get the kids to eat that.
[00:16:14] Dana Stanley: Oh yeah. Oh my gosh. Story. And her, my oldest, she’s, she actually eats like she craves things. Um. That are pretty healthy. She loves chips and guacamole. She loves raspberries, which sometimes I don’t give her a lot because I buy them and she will house, you know, like the organic raspberries. I’m like, can you, they’re so expensive.
[00:16:37] Dana Stanley: And I’m like, I want you to eat these, but can you just like make them last, like two snacks instead of one?
[00:16:43] Ashley: Yes, exactly. My niece does the same thing when she comes over. I have to get the giant thing of strawberries because they have her for like 48 hours and they’re gone. And I’m like, are you okay?
[00:16:54] Dana Stanley: Kids are little fruit monsters, which is great. It’s so good for them. Yeah, it’s so
[00:16:58] Ashley: love it.
[00:16:59] Dana Stanley: When I, um, I don’t know if you would agree with this, ’cause you said something about dairy. I handle dairy fine. And when I was pregnant with one of the kids, my midwife was going over, you know, just like the dietary things of how to not.
[00:17:15] Dana Stanley: You don’t wanna gain too much weight, but
[00:17:17] Ashley: Yeah.
[00:17:17] Dana Stanley: she said if you’re craving something sweet, ice cream is actually like the preferred snack because it has a good balance between
[00:17:25] Ashley: Mm-hmm.
[00:17:26] Dana Stanley: carbs, and, and sugar. Um, and now I’ve made like little ice cream monsters and my husband’s so mad at me because when we’re in Disney, that’s my one thing is like I, we don’t really like do the donuts or.
[00:17:42] Dana Stanley: Rice Krispies or anything, but if you want some gelato
[00:17:46] Ashley: go down
[00:17:47] Dana Stanley: in Italy,
[00:17:48] Ashley: Mm-hmm.
[00:17:49] Dana Stanley: feel like that is, am I like, was my midwife right or do you kind of agree with that?
[00:17:53] Ashley: Yep. Yeah, so when I teach my Blood Sugar Bootcamp, one of my recommendations is for my clients that can’t sleep through the night, I want them to have a little bit of a high quality ice cream before bed. Um, because of the
[00:18:04] Dana Stanley: Amazing.
[00:18:05] Ashley: and the little bit of carb that’s in there, I don’t wanna say a little bit of carb, the sugar that’s in there, it’s gonna keep you sleeping throughout the night and actually give your body the energy it needs to sleep.
[00:18:13] Ashley: So it’s actually a really good snack.
[00:18:15] Dana Stanley: I am telling my husband this, if he’s listening to this episode, see it’s a preferred dessert. ’cause he’s like, you have made such a bad habit, these kids wanting ice cream every
[00:18:25] Ashley: I love
[00:18:25] Dana Stanley: I’m like, it’s good for them. That’s so funny.
[00:18:28] Ashley: yeah,
[00:18:29] Dana Stanley: Um, I’m just pausing to get my, my mind together about, um, if we wanna just dive in to the, you wanna dive into the.
[00:18:40] Dana Stanley: The menus.
[00:18:41] Ashley: Yeah. Oh my gosh, yes. Okay. Do you want me to start with like, um, in each park first before we go into Woody’s? Lunchbox and topos.
[00:18:49] Dana Stanley: Yeah, I’ll walk. I’ll walk us into that first. So let’s get into the nitty gritty of what we can actually, or what we could slash should be eating in Disney World, because we know kind of what to avoid. Can you tell me your favorite? Either places or actual meals for all four parks, or is that too much?
[00:19:12] Ashley: No, that’s not too much at all. I could talk about that for hours.
[00:19:15] Dana Stanley: She’s like, I’m ready.
[00:19:16] Ashley: I’m, I’m ready. I love, I wish there was like a job as a Disney vacation travel planner, but I could just like plan everybody’s meals. Like I would thrive, I would thrive that. so for.
[00:19:26] Dana Stanley: Honestly, I feel like you could figure that out, like you could just make that as a job.
[00:19:31] Ashley: Maybe meal planning guide. Let me, if you’re, if your listeners want a meal planning guide,
[00:19:35] Dana Stanley: Let her know. Let her
[00:19:36] Ashley: let me know guys. Um, okay. So when it comes to Magic Kingdom, that I feel like is one of the hardest ones. So let’s do mobile ordering and then if we want, we can dive into sit down too.
[00:19:47] Ashley: ’cause I love the sit downs and Magic Kingdom as well. Um, but my go-tos are like Pinocchio Village House. Like I love the. The chicken strips, like you can get chicken strips there. I mean, you can get chicken strips anywhere. Um, pizza’s a little bit harder because I feel like it’s so much carbs. So just kind of watch about the size amount you have and then always, you can always add extra toppings on there as well.
[00:20:07] Ashley: Um, but we always wanna pair our protein, fat, and carbs. So let’s say the kids are asking for a Mickey bar, right? And you’re like, okay, cool, it’s lunchtime. Let’s get a Mickey bar after. But before, let’s get some chicken strips first. And then you can have the Mickey bar and you’re going to avoid that crash out afterwards.
[00:20:25] Ashley: Um
[00:20:26] Dana Stanley: you mention that because my, my niece who’s now in college, she’s not little anymore, pretty much only ate either chicken strips or chicken nuggets for probably up until like last year. And she’s a big, she no seriously, so she’s a big Disney person. Um, but she knows like the nuanced. Of like chicken nuggets and chicken strips in Disney World, like from the little stands to sit down restaurants to the resorts, like I actually should have her on just about chicken nuggets,
[00:20:57] Ashley: Yeah.
[00:20:58] Dana Stanley: but she really likes Pinocchio Village House.
[00:21:02] Ashley: They have really, that’s why I went with those.
[00:21:04] Dana Stanley: that’s her preferred chicken strips, so I have to tell her. That’s so funny.
[00:21:10] Ashley: Yeah, they’re so good. I, I love theirs there. I don’t know what it is about theirs specifically, but. Um, you know, and I know there’s like that Mickey bar stand like right outside. I know where all the Mickey Bar stands are. Let’s be relevant. Can you tell my favorite snacks are?
[00:21:22] Dana Stanley: I know you’ve mentioned it like 10 times.
[00:21:24] Ashley: I’m so ready. We have like 40 days to our trip and I’m just like, hang for a Mickey bar. Um, you know, ugh, it’s so good. Um, Casey’s hot dogs, like I’m not a huge hot dog person, but that’s protein that’s gonna have protein. Hot dogs aren’t like the best form of protein just ’cause they’re not as protein rich as some others are.
[00:21:42] Ashley: Um, but it’s still protein, protein’s, protein in its clean. I mean, just get some, it doesn’t have to be perfect. Um, so you could grab a Casey’s hot dog and then a dull whip. Um, I like the little corn dog nuggets too. I feel like it’s a little bit less carb than if you actually have a hot dog with a hot dog bun.
[00:21:57] Ashley: Um, cosmic Rice makes a good cheeseburger. Like if the kids are wanting something quick and easy, a cheeseburger, um, and they get an orange with the fiber. I do try to avoid like the fries as much in Disney to me, they’re not as like, rewarding as other carbs are in Disney. So like, I
[00:22:12] Dana Stanley: I get what you mean.
[00:22:13] Ashley: I find the carbs that are actually worth it for me.
[00:22:16] Ashley: And then I don’t fill up on like the fries at like, you know. Casey’s or cosmic rays or something. Um, and I, I go with an orange. Yeah, I know that. I feel like bad saying that, but I’m like, I mean, if I’m gonna have it, I want it to be a Mickey bar or a do whip TBH. But um, yeah, Pegas spill is also one of my favorites.
[00:22:32] Ashley: I love their children’s, um, chicken bowl. It’s really balanced and I feel like that’s a really great way to get protein, fat and carb in one meal because you can get like. The guac and the chicken, and you’ve got like some lettuce there, which isn’t a, I mean, it’s really not gonna have much fiber in it, but it’s still helping you out with some hydration as well.
[00:22:50] Ashley: So like everything on a plate in Disney can be helpful in some way. So Peco
[00:22:55] Dana Stanley: usually our go-to, like, well, Mexican in general for our family usually. And it works out like every, you can kind of like deconstruct a taco or a bowl for each kid, like maybe one likes cheese or the other one likes avocado or beans. Um, ’cause beans are like beans, have a lot of fiber.
[00:23:14] Ashley: Yes, they do. Yeah.
[00:23:16] Dana Stanley: So, okay, I’m
[00:23:17] Ashley: If you can toler, if you can tolerate that much fiber, make sure that you’re eating beans up until when you go and don’t just slam beans when you’re at Disney to get
[00:23:23] Dana Stanley: Oh yeah,
[00:23:24] Ashley: then you’re like really constipated
[00:23:27] Dana Stanley: you like slam beans and then go on Tiana’s or something like, why did I do that? Don’t do that. Why
[00:23:32] Ashley: do that.
[00:23:32] Ashley: But if you eat beans regularly, that’s a great option. Um, yeah. So, okay. Moving on to Hollywood Studios. We’re gonna dive deeper into Woody’s lunchbox in a minute, but Woody’s lunchbox is a great option for like the brisket, grilled treat cheese, and the Turkey sandwiches. They’re simple. You’re gonna get some protein, fat and carb there.
[00:23:49] Ashley: And then again, like I don’t usually do the tots. I’m gonna get a cutie tea with that. Um, Ron wraps are great. It is quite a bit of carb, but especially if you get the breakfast one with the egg in there, you’re getting even more protein and fat. Um. Docking Bay seven has some really wonderful protein and fiber options.
[00:24:06] Ashley: You can actually buy vegetables at docking Bay seven, which is crazy.
[00:24:09] Dana Stanley: Oh yeah, they do.
[00:24:10] Ashley: like peas and carrots and a lot of the things, so,
[00:24:13] Dana Stanley: I usually get the, um, the beef there, but it comes with like, it has, um, I can never pronounce it. Is it Yucca or Yucca? It’s like a, I don’t know. I mean, it’s gooda, it’s not
[00:24:26] Ashley: Yeah. Yeah.
[00:24:26] Dana Stanley: it’s, yeah, but it has, um, it’s like a vegetable kind of like stir fry. Um, which if no one’s had that, which I think most people have, it’s kind of like a potato, but it’s better in like a parsnip type of way.
[00:24:39] Ashley: Yeah. And there’s
[00:24:40] Dana Stanley: you can eat like a really good meal there. Mm-hmm.
[00:24:42] Ashley: And that’s what I love eating there for that reason. Um, so those are like my go-tos in, oh, sorry. And then, um, a BC commissary has some great meals as well. Like you can actually get like a salad there and things, um, in Epcot connections is usually a go-to for mobile ordering, um, because they have.
[00:25:01] Ashley: So many options of like the chicken sandwich and the cheeseburger and salads. I don’t think you necessarily need to get a salad. Let’s just make that clear too. ’cause I feel like people are like salads are healthy. Hmm. Are they? I mean,
[00:25:13] Dana Stanley: Well when they, like, if you ever see the menus, ’cause I think it’s maybe the wall in some places, it shows the calories. Like we were at Panera Bread over the weekend. Sometimes if you could do like a half a sandwich and the soup is less calories than the, you know, southwestern salad. And you’ll end up being like even less full.
[00:25:34] Ashley: yes, exactly. So I’m not a big salad girl. I mean, I will always, always do Hollywood brown, dirty salad always so good. But when it comes to salads with Disney, I’m not usually doing a salad personally. I’d rather have like a chicken sandwich or something like that. That’s why filling to me and more rewarding to eat than a salad.
[00:25:51] Ashley: Um, but it’s nice that you can get that, that there. Um, and then I love Regal Eagle because you get so much protein there. Watermelon, that’s be so hydrating. Um, so that’s another really great one in Epcot.
[00:26:06] Dana Stanley: You didn’t mention my favorite one,
[00:26:08] Ashley: Which one?
[00:26:09] Dana Stanley: which doesn’t matter. It’s just Mexican again. Uh, the cantina.
[00:26:12] Ashley: yes. Yeah. Is that, can you mobile order at Cantina.
[00:26:15] Dana Stanley: Oh no, you can’t,
[00:26:16] Ashley: Sorry. I just wanna stop
[00:26:17] Dana Stanley: So this okay. I get what you’re doing. Well, it’s just back to my kids and my family. They just love like their rice and beans.
[00:26:26] Ashley: I do love the Cantina. It’s so good.
[00:26:29] Dana Stanley: But I need to remember Regal Eagle, we went there probably once or twice because we never are in that area at lunch. But they do have like, can’t, can’t you just get like ribs?
[00:26:41] Dana Stanley: Am I making that
[00:26:42] Ashley: You can literally just get like straight
[00:26:43] Dana Stanley: Yeah. ’cause you could get like ribs and like a coleslaw and have like a really balanced little meal.
[00:26:51] Ashley: Or those days that I’m just feeling so dehydrated, even when I’ve had my electrolytes and I drink all my water, I just feel so dehydrated. I go there and grab watermelon and I’m like, well, why don’t it feel amazing all of a sudden?
[00:26:59] Ashley: ’cause there’s so many electrolytes in watermelon.
[00:27:01] Dana Stanley: That’s so smart. Or how about like, um, I’m trying to think if there’s anywhere that has like pickles, like does that have a pickle as a side? Because I feel like pickles I always feel like are, like, they’re salty and give, give me a little boost.
[00:27:18] Ashley: I don’t know if you can get a pickle there. I don’t feel like I’ve had a pickle there, but yeah, I, I wish we had the Disneyland pickles in Disney World.
[00:27:25] Dana Stanley: Are they the ones like in the, in like the bag?
[00:27:28] Ashley: They’re so good.
[00:27:29] Dana Stanley: I am, I’m a pickle girl. I love, I love pickles. It’s just, and then the calories are like zero.
[00:27:36] Ashley: Well, and they really, okay. Can we just like pause and talk about pickles for a second?
[00:27:39] Ashley: Because I was messaging a client about
[00:27:41] Dana Stanley: Do it.
[00:27:41] Ashley: because she was like, what’s about pickles and blood sugar? I was like, hold on, let me tell you. Um, so pickles are amazing because they’re actually going to help you prepare your digestion, and they’re also gonna help you balance out your blood sugar because of the, the vinegar esque ness of it is going to actually blunt any blood sugar spikes.
[00:27:58] Ashley: So like, let’s say that you, let’s say the kids ate all your beef sticks and you don’t have any more beef sticks and you don’t have any protein. And you’re hankering for that Mickey bar, let’s just say. And all you can find is a pickle. If you have a pickle before some ice cream, your blood sugar’s gonna do so much better than if you just had the ice cream on its own.
[00:28:14] Ashley: And I’ve tested this out with a CGM, like I’ve literally done the data work
[00:28:18] Dana Stanley: This is,
[00:28:19] Ashley: works. Yes. If
[00:28:20] Dana Stanley: is the best Disney hack.
[00:28:22] Ashley: literally eat more pickles, people, there’s electrolytes, you’re gonna be more hydrated. Like if I have a crocheted pickle, literally right here, like
[00:28:29] Dana Stanley: I guys, we didn’t talk about, we did not plan this or talk about this ahead of time. That’s amazing.
[00:28:34] Ashley: like I, I literally recommend eating pickles before meals to so many clients. And it’s crazy. I had a client, um, actually in Disney. She was in Disney and she was, she wanted a latte at, um, the cake Bake shop, and she had her husband go next door to the deli and get her pickle before she had it. Mm-hmm.
[00:28:50] Ashley: Yeah,
[00:28:51] Dana Stanley: Wait,
[00:28:52] Ashley: I just thought of that. I don’t know why that didn’t click earlier, but yeah. Pickles are like the Disney hack.
[00:28:58] Dana Stanley: I love this so much. So would you put, let’s talk about like the afternoon coffee just for a second, and before we like go right into Animal Kingdom to side quest, would you put like an afternoon latte, like the girl going a cake bake in the same category of like a Mickey Bar? You need to do something to offset that, like a, like a pickle or protein ’cause of all the sugar and dairy.
[00:29:26] Ashley: Yeah, yeah, yeah. So the, the caffeine in your, your afternoon coffee is gonna be about the same as the, the sugar in your Mickey bar. So like, whatever you’re having, if it’s not water, basically we want it to be balanced. So if you’re not having water, or I would even say like unc caffeinated tea, like if you’re a tea drinker.
[00:29:41] Ashley: But other than that, like even if you’re drinking a latte, matcha latte, you need to have protein, fat, and carb with each meal or snack. If you’re having juice, you need to have some protein, fat, and carb with it. It’s gonna spike your blood sugar. I’ve seen the data on CGMs and we don’t want those continued spikes because they lead to all of the symptoms we’ve talked about.
[00:29:58] Dana Stanley: Can you explain what a CGM is just in case someone doesn’t know?
[00:30:01] Ashley: it’s a continuous glucose monitor, so they’re now available for non-diabetics. I use them with, um, clients just to make sure that, you know, we do a lot of killing of insulin resistance and PCOS and just dysregulated blood sugar issues. Um, I utilize those a lot.
[00:30:15] Dana Stanley: Cool. So you have the data to support these, especially the
[00:30:18] Ashley: Everything I, every hack I give has been proven with the CGM.
[00:30:23] Dana Stanley: love that. And then moving on to Animal Kingdom. I know I, I diverted, but let’s go back to your favorite. I would think that animal kingdom, just because they, it’s like more, um, what’s the word I’m looking for? Like you can get things with less gluten. I feel like it just has like a lot of. Meat and vegetables, or do you feel the same way?
[00:30:47] Dana Stanley: It’s easy.
[00:30:47] Ashley: Agreed. Yeah. It’s, it’s, it’s so much easier, I feel like, to eat there, especially at like tuli canteen. ’cause you can make those bowls. You can literally pick, like, you can have root vegetables as your base, um, or grains as your base, like, and then you get to pick your meat that goes on top of it and you can add more vegetables and the
[00:31:03] Dana Stanley: It’s like a Chipotle.
[00:31:04] Ashley: It’s literally like Chipotle in the parks. So that’s probably my go to. Like if you’re wanting something for the kids, you know, the burger pods really aren’t bad either, as long as they’re not filling up on the chips that come with it too. Like let’s get ’em some veggies or fruit to balance out the carb of that.
[00:31:18] Ashley: But then they’re gonna get that ground beef in there. That’s gonna be really great for protein as well.
[00:31:22] Dana Stanley: I meant to ask you, ’cause we keep talking about cuties and I never really thought about it or paid attention ’cause I, I am having memories of like a cutie will come with maybe some of the kids’ meals, but is that like, Disney’s like, can you just swap. Most sides with like some fruit and it’s usually a cutie.
[00:31:42] Ashley: It’s usually cutie, so we swap every, again, like, I’m not gonna, if I’m gonna have carb, it’s gonna be something amazing. So I swap almost everything to a cutie, and then we keep ’em in our bag, and then we just, you know, eat ’em whenever we have a meal that. Needs some extra fiber there.
[00:31:57] Dana Stanley: Okay. I did not even, I don’t know, I just didn’t even think about it. ’cause a lot of times when I’m mobile ordering too, ’cause we share a lot, like sometimes me and my husband get like a kid’s meal. But then I have three kids, so maybe, but when it all ends up with like all the sides that are included, because the kids’ meals are, are good deals we end up with just like, it could just be so many fries and you know, if fries are there, you’re going to eat them.
[00:32:22] Ashley: Exactly.
[00:32:22] Dana Stanley: Or at least like my husband, like, I’ll just look down and they’re gone and they’re not, like you said, it’s not like worth it.
[00:32:28] Ashley: No, to me it’s not worth it. I’m like, I’m gonna go get something delicious. Like, I mean, I’m a big popcorn girl, so like I’d much rather have popcorn, but then again, like that giant thing of popcorn, you know, when I was, I, we did a trip with my niece and nephew and those kids are just slamming popcorn all day and I’m like, guys, this is, needs to be with balanced things too.
[00:32:46] Ashley: So Disney does like to, to, I think, play us with those things ’cause it’s cheap and it’s easy and delicious. Four kids, but it’s not necessarily good for us.
[00:32:55] Dana Stanley: of course. And it, it keeps the, um, it keeps the excitement and the sugar. It keeps it, it keeps it high until we are all crying in the corner and wondering what’s wrong. Is there another place in Animal Kingdom that you like besides Sault
[00:33:11] Ashley: Um, for mobile order drinks, uh, flame, flame tree, barbecue, I’m literally so close to Kansas City. It’s hard for me to recommend barbecue unless you come to Kansas City. That’s what like they’re known for.
[00:33:20] Dana Stanley: Yeah, that’s hard. That’s hard to top.
[00:33:23] Ashley: uh, yeah, so if you’ve had Kansas City Barbecue, maybe don’t, maybe don’t get Planetree barbecue.
[00:33:27] Ashley: I mean, it’s good. It’s really good. I’ve had it, but, um, it’s great because you can literally just get meat and vegetables. It’s so easy. So yeah, that’s another mobile ordering. That’s great.
[00:33:37] Dana Stanley: Are you ready to do a, um, a lightning round of like I tell you the place and then you tell me what you would order
[00:33:47] Ashley: Oh my gosh. Yes,
[00:33:47] Dana Stanley: and I, and I’m picking. Two places that I feel like I chat about with my members a lot. And the first one is Topos, which is the character breakfast over at Riviera, which is fantastic. And I usually kind of steer people that direction and it’s not, it’s not a buffet.
[00:34:08] Dana Stanley: It’s um, I guess it really is just like, it’s a price fix, but you can pick what you’re getting. So I’m pulling up the menu for. Actually I have been, I was gonna say, I’ve only been there for breakfast. I went there for dinner and it was insanely good. But I do feel like breakfast is like, not to be cliche, it’s the most important meal, meal of the day.
[00:34:30] Dana Stanley: And that’s usually when my, my people are going there, so I’m pulling up the breakfast and they have such a, they have such good stuff here.
[00:34:39] Ashley: really do.
[00:34:41] Dana Stanley: I’m like, I know what I would get. I’m curious from the lens of being balanced for our blood sugar going into for a full park day, what are, what are your top choices?
[00:34:55] Ashley: Okay, so I’m gonna add a one caveat. The at beginning here, they’re gonna bring you a basket of pastries out. I want you to wait to eat the pastries until you’ve had some protein and fat. That’s gonna be my biggest thing. Um, just wait to eat those pastries until you’ve already had a little bit of protein.
[00:35:09] Ashley: Um,
[00:35:10] Dana Stanley: feel the same way about coffee too? Like should you have the coffee with breakfast?
[00:35:14] Ashley: Same with alcohol. So like, you know, if I order a mimosa or an Aperol spritz, like I wait until my food is there, and I’ve had a couple bites. First, because liquid sugar is gonna spike your blood sugar faster than any other type of sugar. So
[00:35:28] Dana Stanley: It does really make such a difference. Like I, I, I would say that most people are aware. That food affects you, right?
[00:35:38] Ashley: Yes, yes,
[00:35:39] Dana Stanley: I, I do know, I do know other, some people who can genuinely get like a, a large joffey cold brew
[00:35:49] Ashley: Mm-hmm.
[00:35:50] Dana Stanley: at seven in the morning with a big pink donut, and they’re, they’re great, they’re easy breezy.
[00:35:56] Ashley: I’d be crying in the corner.
[00:35:57] Dana Stanley: that’s not the, that’s not who we’re talking to. So with that in mind, I will say. From my hormone. I mean, I’m in, I’m the before, like you’re in the after. I’m in the before, so I’m still dealing with all of this. But one of the things that it, it’s kind of one of those things of like, oh yeah, sure. Like, it’s like 10,000 steps a day.
[00:36:19] Dana Stanley: Like sure. That, that I’m sure would do a little something, but like not that much was the coffee with breakfast. ’cause I always have coffee in the morning and I, I don’t do like a big coffee. And it has a good amount of dairy, which has the fat, and I don’t necessarily feel jittery, like I don’t feel anything.
[00:36:39] Dana Stanley: But if I wait to have it with my breakfast versus not, it you, you don’t feel it right away. It’s like later in the day you’re like, why do I feel so weird? And it’s, it’s usually that. And in Disney that is like. What happens every morning is like, we want, we want coffee as soon as we wake up. And I think most people are like that.
[00:37:01] Dana Stanley: So even just like if you had something in your room, if you are like a very morning coffee girl, like me, just a few nibbles of something makes like the
[00:37:10] Ashley: cheese in there or like, this is gonna sound a little crazy and maybe I’m gonna get too much
[00:37:14] Dana Stanley: a pickle.
[00:37:15] Ashley: a pickle, I mean, you could order a stick of butter to your room, some Kerry gold, grass fed butter, and have a little bit of butter before you have your coffee.
[00:37:23] Dana Stanley: you’ll love this. That’s, that’s what my 2-year-old has before bed.
[00:37:27] Ashley: See, and I
[00:37:27] Dana Stanley: know. I had like, yeah, and he’s, it was when he was, um, it was when he was tiny, I wanna say maybe, but, but eating solids. I wanna say maybe when he was like one and you’re kind of in that thick of like, sleep training. And I, I don’t know, I saw it online somewhere.
[00:37:44] Dana Stanley: And we always have Carrie Gold. I give him a little dab and that’s still in his routine and it helps them sleep.
[00:37:50] Ashley: it does. It makes a big difference. So we’ve literally, so I do dates help with my constipation when I travel. So we do, um, an order to the room and I get, um, Julie’s dates. If you’re not a date girl, you have to try Julie’s because they’re the best. Um, and then I shove it full of Kerrygold grassfed butter, and then I eat
[00:38:08] Dana Stanley: Oh,
[00:38:08] Ashley: thing in the morning and
[00:38:09] Dana Stanley: salt on
[00:38:10] Ashley: yeah.
[00:38:10] Ashley: And a little salt. I don’t have salt in the room typically. Um, maybe I should start traveling with salt. I don’t know. Um, but yeah, like first thing in the morning, like that is like my go-to. And then I’m regular, I’m going to the bathroom. I’m going to
[00:38:23] Dana Stanley: And then you can have your coffee.
[00:38:24] Ashley: yes, exactly. And you’re good to go. Like, I mean, maybe order a stick of butter to the room.
[00:38:29] Ashley: You don’t have to do the date part. I, I like the fiber and the potassium that comes with the
[00:38:33] Dana Stanley: I’m stealing. No, I’m ordering both of
[00:38:35] Ashley: they’re so good. They’re so good. It taste
[00:38:37] Dana Stanley: love this.
[00:38:39] Ashley: So I do that with a lot of my PCS clients that like. Need to get in more fat and and fiber. I’m like, let’s get some butter and dates going
[00:38:46] Dana Stanley: A little date sandwich. A little date and butter sandwich. Okay, so we’re waiting to nibble on the pastries and our coffee once we get a little food in our tummies. Or maybe we’ve had something at the room. And then what
[00:38:59] Ashley: Okay. Then I am personally ordering the steak and eggs ’cause I’m a big steak girl. I love steak. Um, so I’m gonna order the steak, but you can also order the quiche. The quiche is really wonderful as well. Um, two eggs, any style also great. But I do wanna give a thing. I also sometimes do enjoy sweet breakfast.
[00:39:18] Ashley: And so what I recommend doing is either adding to the side of protein with your sweet breakfast. So if you’ve got like, uh, the French toast or the s cream waffles are so
[00:39:26] Dana Stanley: The waffles so good. I was
[00:39:27] Ashley: we, we
[00:39:28] Dana Stanley: ’cause that.
[00:39:28] Ashley: til buenos like a lot. We
[00:39:31] Dana Stanley: No, it’s it. It is delicious. And I wanna read the sour cream Waffle is served, is served with a choice of bacon, ham, sausage, or vegan sausage. But I will say the steak and eggs is so good. What me and my husband do usually is we order, I don’t wanna say one good, one bad, but you know what I mean.
[00:39:52] Dana Stanley: A savory and a sweet. And then we just cut the waffle down the middle.
[00:39:57] Ashley: And then so what’s, what you can also do for even optimal blood sugar balance is eat the savory first and then eat the sweet. So eat it like a dessert.
[00:40:06] Dana Stanley: It makes it, again, these are the things like with the coffee, I feel like I’m just coming around to actually these things that you can’t see going on in your
[00:40:17] Ashley: Mm-hmm.
[00:40:18] Dana Stanley: It actually does, it sounds like, so like dumb, like, oh, okay. Like just, I’m gonna eat. I just eat this first and I’ll feel better. And it is actually that simple.
[00:40:28] Ashley: It actually really, it really is that simple. It’s almost frustrating how simple it is because it’s stuff like, you’re like, it’s gotta be more complicated than this. It’s really not. I mean, if you just get some protein and fat with your carb and you eat your protein and fat first, you’re gonna feel like 10 times better.
[00:40:43] Dana Stanley: And the good thing about Disney, ’cause I’m learning this too, is just walking after a meal,
[00:40:49] Ashley: Yeah.
[00:40:50] Dana Stanley: like versus not.
[00:40:51] Ashley: Mm-hmm.
[00:40:52] Dana Stanley: Keeps your blood sugar so much more balanced, which we’re already automatic maybe. Maybe that’s why. ’cause I can eat a little worse when I’m in Disney than at home. And then when I come home, I’m like, how was I drinking Like a mimosa and then a coffee, and then I had a margarita.
[00:41:12] Dana Stanley: I mean, these would be on like my good days. Not, not lately, but then you come home and you’re like. I can’t even like skip a glass of water without having a headache. What? I’m like, it’s the Disney magic. It’s probably ’cause you’re walking.
[00:41:25] Ashley: It’s a lot of the walking and the fresh air and the, and the, the sun and the vitamin D, like you’re actually getting a lot of these really amazing components on a Disney vacation. I love the people that are always like, go somewhere else. And I’m like, Disney’s actually a really great place because you’re getting the outside elements in a curated space.
[00:41:40] Ashley: I love it.
[00:41:42] Dana Stanley: Yeah. And it’s clean.
[00:41:43] Ashley: It’s clean. Yes, it’s
[00:41:45] Dana Stanley: All right, let’s, let’s go to another harder one. It’s not harder, but it has less options and that is Woody’s Lunchbox, which is a very popular spot. More I think of just the convenience because a lot of my members, especially, they have little kids who love Toy Story, so they start the morning in Toy Story land.
[00:42:09] Ashley: Yeah.
[00:42:10] Dana Stanley: I kind of find myself in this bind sometimes because it’s not like my favorite place to go for breakfast and I don’t usually know what to get. So I’m selfishly asking you.
[00:42:21] Ashley: yes. Um, okay. So I actually do surprisingly, really do love the, um, breakfast bowl because it has that brisket, country gravy, which is gonna have some good fats in it, but also has scrambled eggs in there. So then you’re gonna get the protein, especially if the kids will eat the eggs and you will eat the eggs, you’re gonna get that protein and fat.
[00:42:37] Ashley: And then I don’t always eat a ton of the tots that’s like underneath it
[00:42:40] Dana Stanley: Mm-hmm.
[00:42:41] Ashley: wanna like. We don’t wanna like load up on carb when you’re about to eat like other fun stuff throughout the day. But also you can order a Turkey sandwich at Breakfast
[00:42:49] Dana Stanley: Really?
[00:42:50] Ashley: Mm-hmm. Yeah. It’s listed on under the breakfast menu, and I have actually ordered it before for breakfast,
[00:42:55] Dana Stanley: Oh yeah, it is on there.
[00:42:57] Ashley: Mm-hmm.
[00:42:57] Dana Stanley: And you can get the brisket melt that you mentioned too.
[00:43:00] Ashley: And the brisket melt is amazing because it has pickles on it,
[00:43:03] Dana Stanley: And you go,
[00:43:04] Ashley: getting extra pickles.
[00:43:06] Dana Stanley: and I do see like they have the breakfast bowl and I’ll read what, what is it? What’s in it is potato barrels, which is just funny. They’re tots smothered in a brisket, country gravy, scrambled eggs and green onions. But you can also get that as a kid’s bowl, which comes with a cutie.
[00:43:24] Ashley: and that’s what I always do. My husband always gets the adult one. I always get the kid one that comes with cutie.
[00:43:30] Dana Stanley: Yeah, a lot of people don’t realize that you can order, like you can be 65 and order from the kids’ menu. They, they don’t care.
[00:43:39] Ashley: Yeah. Just he does not care.
[00:43:40] Dana Stanley: And it’s usually, I would wanna say like 20% smaller, but then it can be like 40% cheaper, like the ratio is off. So it’s like a very good budget. Budget hack,
[00:43:55] Ashley: Yeah. And.
[00:43:55] Dana Stanley: the pickle hack.
[00:43:57] Ashley: Like when, I also love that just the serving size in general, because as women, you know, we’ll order the same amount of food as our husband and our husband’s maybe like twice our size or like just bigger than us in general, but we’re eating the same amount. And that’s something I found with my PCOS and being able to lose weight was like, I was literally eating the same size of food as my husband because we’d go to Disney and he’d get the breakfast bowl, and I’d get the breakfast bowl and we both eat our breakfast bowls.
[00:44:18] Dana Stanley: Yeah, it makes total sense. No,
[00:44:19] Ashley: I never had that. Yeah, I never had that marker that was like. Oh, you’re full. Like no, you’re full when you’re done eating, basically. So that’s something that I find for women a lot is like, look at how much you’re eating versus your husband. ’cause that may be part of like the reason you feel lethargic or brain fog or moody is because maybe you’re just eating too much too.
[00:44:38] Dana Stanley: I am gonna cough. Hang on.
[00:44:40] Ashley: Go for it.
[00:44:45] Dana Stanley: We’re good. I’m gonna drink some water. I just gotta tickle on my throat.
[00:44:48] Ashley: Oh, I’m so sorry. I hate when that happens.
[00:44:52] Dana Stanley: I know and it’s like amplified when you’re like, I don’t wanna like
[00:44:55] Ashley: And it always happens like in the worst moments too.
[00:44:57] Dana Stanley: I know. I’m so sorry.
[00:44:59] Ashley: No, you’re good.
[00:45:00] Dana Stanley: No, that is so true about just portions. ’cause when it’s in front of you, it’s hard to gauge how much you’re actually eating. And a kid’s meal is just easy peasy for that.
[00:45:11] Ashley: Yep. And that’s, and also that’s why like I follow the fist rule. Like if I look, if I did get something with rice and I looked down at my plate, or rice, for example, we had, um, jungle skipper. And the amount of rice they gave me with the duck was like crazy. And I was like, I would eat all this ’cause it’s delicious.
[00:45:25] Ashley: And so like, I do kinda like look at my plate and I’m like, okay, this is the size of my fist. That’s how much I’m going to eat. And you know, now I do wanna say a lot of women do undereat, so that’s something to talk about on a daily basis. I, I don’t want you undereating, but when you’re in Disney, I feel like it’s very easy to overeat.
[00:45:39] Dana Stanley: No, of course. I mean, the, the portions are big,
[00:45:43] Ashley: Yeah.
[00:45:44] Dana Stanley: bigger than normal places I or other places, I think. Is there anything that you always bring with you, I know you had mentioned like making sure your electrolytes, um, are good. Like is there things that you always bring into the park with you?
[00:45:58] Ashley: yes. So I always have my electrolytes. Now I do wanna say, when you purchase electrolytes, always look at the ratio of potassium to sodium. You want a two to one ratio of potassium to sodium. So for example, if you had a hundred, um, milligrams of sodium, you wanna make sure you at least have 200 milligrams of potassium.
[00:46:17] Ashley: That’s just the ideal ratio. So, um, that’s just my little fun fact. I love to give everyone, um, or you can even, you know, I just said this, I need to start traveling with salt. You can literally throw a little bit of unrefined, so not iodized, but unrefined sea salt in your water, and that’s gonna help your body absorb it better too.
[00:46:33] Ashley: So I do have some clients that will travel with salt. I just have not started yet. Um, and then I always, we always have a beef stick on us. If you see me in the parks, come up and ask me for beef stick. I got it. I gotta be sick. I got a protein bar that’s got a good amount of protein in me. Like I always have some sort of snack on me, um, at all times.
[00:46:53] Dana Stanley: I love it. Uh, that’s, that’s how I am too, especially when I fly. I have like snack anxiety, like water and snack anxiety of like not having enough. And then my husband, he just flew. Um, we rarely or never, we, we never travel separately. We’re always together. And this was the first time he flew without me and he truly brought nothing.
[00:47:17] Dana Stanley: Like I, I like, he had his bag, but he didn’t bring like a Stanley water bottle or
[00:47:24] Ashley: sir,
[00:47:25] Dana Stanley: electrolytes or a book, or he’s like, I’ll just get something at the airport. I mean, I could ne I would truly mm-hmm.
[00:47:34] Ashley: Yeah, I’ve, I’ve done the,
[00:47:35] Dana Stanley: not the same.
[00:47:36] Ashley: boxes, like I have got. I flew out without my husband the first time ever this year, and I, the amount of snacks I took with me
[00:47:43] Dana Stanley: Mm-hmm.
[00:47:44] Ashley: insane, and I, they all got eaten so
[00:47:48] Dana Stanley: Yeah, same. Like, I, I truly, I need it, and I mean, obviously Disney makes it a little easier to, to find snacks, but you could be in line for a ride or maybe it goes down or something. You get stuck on the skyliner, which well, but you should always have snacks.
[00:48:09] Ashley: you should always have snacks. You should always have a snack. We have our park bag and like a part of the park bag is snacks. So we’ve always got those.
[00:48:17] Dana Stanley: I love it. I think that was everything. I think that was like, is there anything that you wanted to touch on that we missed?
[00:48:26] Ashley: I don’t, I don’t think so.
[00:48:28] Dana Stanley: I felt, I feel good about it.
[00:48:30] Ashley: away my notes a long time ago. I’m like, Nope. I’m just gonna, I don’t know
[00:48:33] Dana Stanley: It floats. It floats so good though.
[00:48:35] Ashley: Yeah, no. Literally,
[00:48:37] Dana Stanley: All right. Let me ask. Okay. I’ll say, Ashley, thank you so much. This was, I mean, the little, not even little. There were so many big nuggets that I know I’m stealing from my next trip, which I am determined to feel as good as possible on our next trip, which is hopefully in the summer.
[00:48:58] Dana Stanley: But can you tell us where to find you? All of those things.
[00:49:03] Ashley: Yes, well, you can find me on Instagram, I am Magic and Wellness. Um, you can also check out my website, magic and wellness.com. Um, if you wanna see anything else I offer or learn a little bit more about me.
[00:49:13] Dana Stanley: Perfect. And I’m going to leave links to both of those in the show notes for everyone. Thank you so much.
[00:49:18] Ashley: Everything right now. So it’ll be, it’ll look a little better later on this week.
[00:49:23] Dana Stanley: Amazing. Well, this, um, this airs on. The 20th? No, that’s to, that’s,
[00:49:30] Ashley: Oh, that’s
[00:49:30] Dana Stanley: to that, that’s today. Um, I’m gonna hit stop and then, but we’ll still be here. Does that make sense? That way it can like see.
My life doesn't revolve around Disney like you may think. I live for my family: my husband and our three kids. In my spare time I like to make my home the best it can be, read on our porch and watch (you guessed it) Disney+.
